STYLING:Some details are jarring, but the 2009 Audi A4’s handsome genetics are on full display;PERFORMANCE:The 2009 Audi A4 has ample V-6 power and the secure handling of front- or all-wheel drive, but Drive Select needs more refinement;QUALITY:The 2009 Audi A4 has a roomy interior with high-quality materials, though some seat and trim details need more attention;SAFETY:The 2009 Audi A4 has extensive safety features, but hasn’t been tested yet;FEATURES:The 2009 Audi A4 offers a high level of standard equipment, and some high-tech options that ratchet its price tag up above $40,000.
- Auto123—With the next-generation A4, Audi offers one of the most capable sedans on the market right now. However, it still suffers from a lack of rear passenger room and aesthetic flair; no one would have cried over a slightly bolder design. Yet, the 2009 Audi A4 3.2 boasts outstanding performance levels along with premium comfort and luxury. Once again, the Ingolstadt-based company positions the A4 as a benchmark in the entry-level luxury car segment.

Buying Tips:
Diesel fans can rejoice: Audi plans to introduce a diesel version of the new A4 to its lineup next year. On the performance end of the spectrum, this fall should see the addition of a twin-turbo V-6 Audi S4 sedan and wagon.

I’ve had the 2.0 T Sedan quattro Tiptronic for about 2 months and I’m hooked on Audi now. The car isn’t built for racing but has tons more get up and go than the V6 Solara I had been driving. The breaks take a little getting used to. Press them to hard and you feel like you could go through the windshield (very sensitive). Smoothest transmission I have ever driven. The interior puts the BMW 3 Series to shame.

As far as I know, I’m among the first to get a 2.0 T Sedan quattro Manual in the US. Very sporty, nice pickup vs. the automatic. 2nd and 3rd gear nail you to the seat. That said, no one is going to bury the needle at 180 mph, which leaves a lot of unusable speedometer. Plenty of backseat room, especially for its class (try sitting in the back of a 3 series unless you’re a women’s gymnast). Interface controls are functional and can be navigated with being a complete distraction (a’ la iDrive) but still could be a little quicker to get around. Could be a learning curve issue on my part. Overall very satisfied with the car and would recommend to anyone looking in the entry premium vehicle market. Sportier than a MB C-Class, Roomier than a BMW 3-Series or Infiniti G37, more reasonably priced than all of them (plenty of standard or near-standard equipment with Audi, IMO.)
