- Edmunds—he 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer is a solid and sporty alternative to economy sedan best-sellers, even if it doesn’t quite match their overall refinement.Pros:Confident handling, impressive value, full array of available high-tech equipment, edgy styling, strong engines in GTS and Ralliart trims;Cons:No stability control except on Ralliart, power-sapping CVT, noisy base engine, subpar interior materials, unimpressive fuel economy.
- Thecarconnection—STYLING:The Mitsubishi Lancer has a nicely tailored shape, though it’s not as exciting inside as from the outside;PERFORMANCE:The 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer provides pretty good performance for the price, though fuel economy is disappointing;QUALITY:The 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer’s compact dimensions belie its spacious interior, but the bargain price tag shows in the materials;SAFETY:The 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer boasts decent crash-test scores, but the lack of stability control and, on the base models, ABS is a negative;FEATURES:Even in its most basic DE trim, the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer comes loaded with a respectable list of standard conveniences.
- NewCarTestDrive—Mitsubishi has everyone covered in the compact class with the 152-hp Lancer ES for those with their minds on economy; the 168-hp Lancer GTS for those with spirit and an eye for value; the 237-hp Ralliart for those with a sense of adventure; and the 291-hp Evo for those with a need for speed. The best news is that these four look enough alike that maybe you can split your personalities.

I bought a Used Mitsubishi Lancer GTS car in Nov 09 with just over 700 miles. I love the sound system-Rockford Fosgate. The bluetooth is a great addition. It is pretty peppy, but not a street machine by any stretch of the imagination. Even when the car is dirty I get compliments on how attractive it is. After 18K miles I can honestly say I like this car a lot! It’s underrated in my book. I take my friends out in it and they all get out impressed by all the gadgets, and the great ride!

Mine is an ‘09 GTS. 2.0 a little underpowered. The CVT takes a little getting used to. The paddle sifter brings you to a 6 speed auto which works well.
Upgraded sound is fantastic. The GPS software needs upgrading. (Still trying to figure that one out)
I’ve read several Yahoo reviews about reliability issues on the Lancer. This month will be the two year mark with the Lancer GTS. I can tell you that I have had no issues what so ever. Zero.
As of this writing, I would, without question, purchase another Lancer.

I bought this ES Sport vehicle because my 01 VW Jetta was on it’s last limb. Countless problems with that car led me to hate it but still love it (It was a VR6). Barely made it to the dealer. I knew I wanted an import vehicle, but did not like the corolla as much, and the Civic/Accord are great but too expensive.
The ES-Sport is a great ride! If you don’t want to shell out for a GTS, but don’t like the looks of a base ES, then go ES-Sport! Rockford Fosgate radio is very good. It’s not a “build and install a monster system on your own” good, but better than most stock radio systems and has lots of power. Seats are comfortable, plenty of places to store stuff. Plenty of standard equipment.
The only reason I can’t give this 5 stars on appearance is because the wheels on the ES-Sport are the same as the ES (some aftermarket wheels will soon change that!). Still has aggresive styling! Comfort is 5 stars, plenty of room for everyone. Performance is very good. It’s not a V8 supercharged beast, but will get to speed very well for a 4 cylinder. Will definitely save on gas!. Value is good, but Mitsubishi’s resale decline quicker than Toyota’s or Honda’s, but not as bad as American cars. I expect reliability to be very good for this car and any needed repairs to be much cheaper than the VW Jetta I had!
I am definitely happy with the purchase and will recommend anyone to get one!
