2009 Volkswagen Routan Reviews and Buying Tips
With a touch of German flair,This new 2009 Volkswagen Routan has the bonuses of Chrysler’s segment-defining minivans .
Introduction of 2009 Volkswagen Routan
The 2009 Routan is a 4-door, 7-passenger mini van, available in 10 trims, ranging from the S to the SEL P CARB.
Upon introduction, the S is equipped with a standard 3.8-liter, V6, 197-horsepower engine that achieves 16-mpg in the city and 23-mpg on the highway. The SEL P CARB is equipped with a standard 4.0-liter, V6, 251-horsepower engine that achieves 17-mpg in the city and 25-mpg on the highway. A 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on both trims.
The 2009 Routan is all-new for 2009.
Index of Volkswagen Routan Reviews
- Thecarconnection—The base S model comes in at a very attractive price, starting at around $25,000, but uplevel options and trims drive the Routan’s cost skyward, even into the price range of the Touareg luxury SUV. The mid-level SE brings larger wheels and tires than the base S, along with power sliding doors, a garage door opener, and power heated mirrors, though at a significant price premium. Opting for the top-of-the-line SEL brings more power, better economy, and greater refinement, along with highly desired features such as a rear entertainment system and 506-watt premium sound system, but it costs thousands more. Volkswagen’s touch-screen navigation system, which comes with one of the better displays, is optional, as is a hard-drive music-storage system.
- Newcartestdrive—The Volkswagen Routan is a family friendly minivan with a higher quality interior than its parent, the Chrysler Town & Country. However, it lacks some of the best seating and storage features of the Chrysler. It rides smoothly, but handling and power are not as good as that of its competitors. And yet pricing matches the tops in the class, so the Routan may not be the best value in a very competitive market. The one advantage the Routan does have, however, is Volkswagen’s three-year, 36,000-mile free maintenance plan.

Buying Tips
If you need second-row seats that stow into the floor more easily to make room for cargo, you might want to take a look at the Routan’s Chrysler siblings, the Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country. Their Stow ‘n Go arrangement is still among the best in any minivan, and the 2009 VW Routan doesn’t offer it.

We just purchased this SE vehicle a few weeks ago and we love it. It is great for long road trips. Very comfortable for both adults and children in the back 2 rows. Back seats fold down if needed for extra storage. Back 2 rows seats recline, which is a plus. Automatic doors, great when going grocery shopping. I would recommend this car to anyone.

I bought my VW Routan SEL RSE 6 weeks ago and have already driven around 1300 miles on it. Overall I am liking it very much. The ride and interior are typical german which means always good. Shape wise I like it from front but rear is just ok. A 30GB hard drive integrated in the audio systems is a very big plus and its very easy to copy a CD on it. Touchscreen audio system navigation is also cool. The locking system of doors is not safe in the sense that if by mistake any door is left behind opened or not properly closed then it does not give you any alarm or some beep to let you know of the situation (my 2000 camry used to have this feature). Overall its a very nice and safe minivan and I will recommend it to those who are looking for a minivan.

I would highly recommend this SEL RSE vehicle to anyone who needs or wants a roomy car. It drives like a car and had power to spare. Our granddaughter loves to rides with us and watch DVD movies. Gas mileage is 24 on the highway. Good visability and we feel v ery safe when driving.

I just got my new Routan and I have put only 100 miles but I love it. Just turned in my Mercedes R350 which I also loved and leased tis one. Budget-wise it is a lot of car for the money. It has tons of storage which they got from the Dodge/Chrysler. The salesman says VW bought the frame from them and added the VW touch. You get the German drive and VW dash for not a lot of money.
