Buying Tips:
If you’re in the market for a real deal, avoid the urge to settle for the 2009 Chevy Equinox. The 2010 version is so significantly enhanced, they’re nearly two different vehicles. Also, the four-cylinder 2010 Equinox is a popular choice for the Cash for Clunkers program and availability is tight, so you may need patience if you’re looking for the 32-mpg version.

I test drove the 4 cylinder FWD and the 6-cyl AWD models of the Equanox recently. Both handled very similarly. The ride was very smooth and the car was very quiet. The 6-cyl seemed to be slightly quieter than the 4 cyl.

I thought the 4 cylinder had plenty of power, it was certainly noticeably peppier than most economy cars I’ve driven, like the Focus or my previous 1.8L Pontiac Vibe. I’d say it’s almost as peppy as my current 2.4L Pontiac Vibe (which is fast) but it gets better mileage than the 2.4L Vibe and is much larger and much more comfortable and I’m thinking of trading up.

The 6 cyl has boatloads of power; I mean that thing goes and it feels solid. I think it’s more power than I personally need on a day-to-day basis and I’d much rather have the extra fuel economy at this point.

The interior layout is very well thought out and it’s very spacious. I could not find anything annoying in the controls. The Equinox handles like a vehicle that’s much smaller. I thought the FWD car handled slightly better than the AWD on dry pavement. The braking was also very nice for such a large vehicle.

I’m just getting used to the 5-spd auto on my 2009 vibe, and I can say that having a 6 spd. auto will take a tad more adjusting. I think the transmission was fairly responsive but it does shift a lot, particularly if you’re changing demands on the power frequently. The accelerator pedal is a bit touchy, I think it could be softer.

Since these were just test drives, I can’t attest to the actual mpg or reliability, although I will say that my current 2009 car took about 4000 miles to break in before it reached it’s peak mileage.

I recommend you at least test drive one if you’re interested. I think you’ll be pretty impressed. I was.

Okay, my wife and I have owned a number of Honda’s in the past and have had no real issues with any of them. My wife currently drives a Honda Civic Hybrid (she’s trying to make an environment statement.) Anyway, I had a 2004 Accord that has been great for me as well. Nothing really to complain about. With over a 100K miles it was time to trade it in and get another Honda, at least that’s was my intention. That was until some guy pulled in the Honda parking lot with the new Chevy Equinox. My plan was to buy a Honda CRV but when the Chevy pulled in the lot I had to take a look and let me tell you. One look at the new Equinox and you can definitely see that Chevy is no longer the Chevy I knew 10 years ago. This thing really looked better then the Honda. So I figured let me give Chevy a shot and let me drive this thing. I went across the street to the Chevy dealer and drove the 4cyl 2LT and while the power leaves something to be desired the mileage rating was great. The interior was also nicely done and much better designed than the CRV. The car drove great, looked great and seemd of high quality. Only time will tell if the reliabilty has improved as much as the rest of the Chevy but with a 5 year 100K warranty I feel that I made a sound investment.

Don’t be swayed by the fact that this is an American car. It seems that the Americans are back in the game and are designing cars every bit as good as the Japanese and look much better. I say just drive one and decide for yourself. I hope this review was helpful. Good luck

I bought my 2010 LT2 last Sunday. It drives great with a smooth quiet ride. I’ve had it a week and I still have 3/8 of a tank left and I’ve gone 200 miles. And that’s with the V6! I use to have to fill up once a week. So far I just love this car. The rear view camera is fun but it looks like there is much more space between you and whatever is behind you so be careful backing up. But otherwise great visibility and no blind spots. I’m still trying to figure out how to do presets for the satellite radio. Lots of fun! I’ll have to reveiw again after I’ve had it for a few months. Hopefully I will still be able to give it the same ratings for performance and reliability. It was hard finding a good deal with cash for clunkers being offered – I didn’t have a clunker. But I did get a rebate plus a Costco member discount.

We bought this car LT1 2WD about a month ago and we just love it! It gets great gas mileage, the ride is smooth, and it does have some pep to it regardless what other people say. We were looking for a nice vehicle with good gas mileage and we found the perfect vehicle for the perfect price!
