  • Newcartestdrive—The 2011 Jaguar XJ does everything you expect in a luxury sedan, with room, amenities, quiet and thrust, with a sporty side always in the background that offers more driver interaction but one that never changes the car’s personality. Eye-catching lines and serene cabins that marry contemporary design with both traditional and modern materials convey a sense of style that more antiseptic modern conveyances can only wish for,and that the XJ has the performance to back up.
  • thecarconnection—Styling:The XJ’s exciting new styling direction only takes one or two wrong turns;Performance:Amazing acceleration and nimble handling come with almost no penalty;Quality:Room abounds, but the rear seat and trunk are a bit tight, and there’s plenty of “piano-black” plastic to go around in the 2011 XJ;Safety:Neither crash-test group has checked in, but the XJ has a sturdy aluminum body;Features:iPhone connections, Bluetooth and distinct wood and leather trims make up for some cutting-edge tech left on the cutting-room floor.

The XJ-L Supercharged costs about $92,000 before taxes and offers you heated/cooled seats with massage motors, a 470HP engine, a fantastic, high-end interior that completely eclipses the plastic laden interiors from the Germans and Lexus and ultra sharp luxury styling.

The “L” adds a few inches to the rear legroom but adds virtually nothing to the front. Had the seats been set a little further back, the front seat would have more space for taller people, but as is, this car has a somwhat restricted feel you’d expect to find on a European car. The S-class offers far more interior space in both front and back for roughly the same amount of money.

However, where the Jaguar wins is the high quality interior – made with a nautical theme – of wood, chrome and leathers. Probably the best looking interior I’ve seen/felt. The engine is also no slouch. With 470HP and a 0-60 under 5 seconds, you’d need a $130,000 AMG or performance German car to match what you are getting here.

The downside is that there is far more road feel in this car than the Germans’ who offer more isolation and quieter cabins. The road feel adds to the sport feel but many people won’t like it for that aspect.

I also wish the headlamps had been wider rather than being snatched off the smaller XF concept car.

Otherwise, this is the new lucury car to buy if you love Jags.

Dealer let me take the base model home overnight. I ended up driving the car until 2AM. The car is responsive and quick. Step on the gas and you take off. I just got rid of a 2007 XK. This blows that car away. I ordered the Supercharged XJL the next morning. Unfortunately it won’t be in until October. Oh, the base stereo system booms. Of course I had to get the drum piercing 1200W B&W system….read more

Waiting for mine to be delivered (XJL Supercharged). The car has tons of power to spare and handles incredibly. Plush and luxurious skin atop a beast. This car will keep the positive vibe for Jaguar they’ve been developing with the XK and XF and will help bring sales back to past glories. Expect to see quite a few of them around very soon. For the price, you can’t beat it, period.
