best exhaust for WRX

Which exhaust is best for WRX?—By hobosapien081
I know that Magnaflow and Borla are amongst the best out there, but I was just curious, which exhaust system has been tried and trusted for the WRX or STi? I’m not planning on converting my car into a full-time track car, I just want it to be a weekend racer…

Borlas are known to crack. I don’t think you will find the best out there. Perrin, Grouppe-s, GT-Spec all make great units for good priced. If you just want a name and are willing to pay premium for it, then you could go with the HKS, Greddy, Tomei, Cusco like the JDM fan boy’s like to do but they do not translate to any more gains than the others. Switching headers means you need to have the car re tuned to see any gains from it so I would talk to a reputable tuner you will be using and see what they are familiar with as far as tuning for goes. Also have you done any other mods? Turbo back and a tune? Headers are really not a good power to cost ratio unless you are trying to wring out another 10 to 15 ho out of an already modded car.

And to the guy above. What info are you using to recommend Greddy and only Greddy? Have you used them? Do you have some graphs showing them to give higher gains than all the other brands out there? Just curious.

No not the Apexi. Search GT Spec and you should find some info on them. If that is all you have done so far, I would not be looking at headers yet. First, since you started on the suspension, I would get a little more. A good set of springs and some good tires will make a huge difference along with your sway bars. Then for power, I would look for a down pipe and some sort of reflash. Cobb’s Access port is a great unit but is costly. You will gain some noticeable power though just with those two things. Add a cat back and get a custom tune and you are looking at about a 60hp and tq gain for about $1500. Since it sounds like you drive this car ragularly and are just looking for a little more pep for the weekend, I would just do the down pipe and reflash. By the way, what year is your car? If it’s an 05 or newer, you could be doing more damage then good with that intake and no tuning. Although Perrin is pretty good, in certain conditions, your AFR’s could be off enough to do a little harm. Anyway Get on NASIOC.com for more and better info. Everything you need to know is there including great tuners that you can contact for info.

Greddy should have a set of header to the muffler available for the WRX.

The Borla is more likely the Subaru’s liable/trusted brand name. However, Greddy has better manufacturer’s process (welding, stainless steel…etc).
