Car battery question ….?—By Uranus
Can i charge a car battery with a small 12v – 800ma charger (which is used as a telephone charger) ?
Why the car battery chargers are bigger than a usual small 12v ac – dc adaptors.

you could , but it would take forever since there is very little amperage coming out of the charger.
just to clarify, some batteries for cars can and do go up to 800 cold cranking amps, where your charger is 800 Milli-amps. Milli-amps mean 1 millionth of an amp you are better off getting a trickle charger for a car battery, they will give off about 3 to 5 amps and let you put a good charge into your battery over a 24 hour or 48 hour period . using a shop charger that goes to 20 to 60 amps will put a top charge into the battery ( this way is harder on the battery ) hope this helps

Technically you could, but would take an extra ordinary long time to do as it is only trickleing the charge in at 800ma.
The car battery charger is bigger because the battery is bigger and requires a bigger charge.

No it will not be able to put enough current into the battery to gain any charge at all.
Car battery chargers have to handle a lot more power and bigger coils are needed to handle it and the heat generated.

It won’t put the amps you need into your battery. It will put milli-amperage back into your battery which is a very small unit. To charge a battery, even trickle charge it you need at least 2-3 amps going into your battery constantly.

No you need a 12 volt charger that gives out more Amps per hour (AH) than your battery
On your battery it should show eg 65 AH

no you are likely to short out or set fire to the charger
