charge a car battery with no signs of being weak
Is it good or bad to charge a car battery with no signs of being weak ?—By N
Its getting near freezing for the first time this year and although my car stays in the garage, I wonder if charging it will help prevent an incident later this winter ?The battery is about 4 years old. A Ever Hard by walmart that had a 3 year free replacement.Any harm or help from charging a battery that shows no sign of being weak ?Thanks

Most new chargers won’t try to charge the battery if it doesn’t need a charge; older ones might not have this feature. If you are worried about the cold you could uninstall your battery at night and take it in the house if you are the mechanic type. You could look into trickle chargers. These charge at about 1.5 amps and charge only when the battery goes down, but I myself wouldn’t want to leave something electrical on overnight when I’m sleeping. As the battery gets older the cold will start to affect it more and you could look into a type of heater for colder climates that keep cars warm during the night (not sure what this is called) but again with the running appliances while you sleep. If your battery shows no sign of getting weak then I would leave it alone. If your battery get overcharged the sides will start to pooch out and a knowledgeable associate might recognize that and overcharging isn’t covered under the warranty. Your battery (it’s Ever Start brand) is in the prorated period now, so if it goes bad during the winter and you get a new one, you probably wouldn’t pay full price.

If you have a recharger that automatically cuts off when the battery is fully charged, it wont hurt anything. But its not necessary. If your recharger does *not* cut off when full charged, it will overcharge our battery, which greatly *reduces* the life of your battery.

if it is 4 years old and you can get a battery easily go ahead if you have the cash right now and want to save yourself the trouble later i would change it because the weather is changing and Extreme weather is hard on a battery.
