Why doesn’t my 2008 dodge grand caravan start?—By searstower
I just purchased the 2008 dodge grand caravan a month ago. I live in the city. I was parked the van. When i finished parking, I turned off the engine. I got out of the van and i thought I should reverse a little because i had a lot of room. I got in the van and the van didn’t let me turn it on anymore. Everything inside turns on, but the engine doesn’t. The engine light is now on. I am upset because the dealer sales man didn’t give me much of an explanation. He just told me to call road side assitance and bring in the van. Does anyone know what went wrong?

Hello, on a brand new 2008 the dealer should be at your doorstep with a mechanic. Call back the dealer’s service department and have a mechanic walk you through the trouble-shooting process. If the car requires service the mechanic should make the arrangements and have the vehicle roadside assistance program dispatched if necessary. Hope you’re back on the road soon!

If it just clicks but the lights don’t dim when you turn the key to start it is almost surely worn out contacts in the starter solenoid which is both a known weakness with the NipponDenso offset gear reduction starters and a cheap and easy fix. Unfortunately even though a few worn pieces of copper are all that is wrong with it a shop or the dealer will probably change the whole starter which of course costs more.
