drive on a tire has a small bulge

How dangerous is it to drive on a tire that has a small bulge? I just noticed it this morning.?—By Huckleberry Sin
This same tire has had a constant leak and I will be getting it replaced on Sunday. Is it completely unsafe to drive for the next 3 days?Yes- the bulge is on the front tire and I know it just happened yesterday since I check this tire daily for leaks.I tried posting a much more detailed question initially but YA wouldn’t allow it! My drive to work is 8 miles, mostly highway.Oh, and it’s an Acura RSX

Most people say no, but that’s just fear of the unknown, because in the first place you haven’t told us which tire it is, the size of the bulge, what kind of driving you plan on doing, what speeds you’ll be travelling, how far you’ll be driving, or even the kind of vehicle you have (wheelbarrow, racing car, passenger bus, semi transport, bicycle. etc.)

The best advice given, is to put on the spare tire … that’s what it’s there for … to be used when one of the regular tires isn’t serviceable.

Depending on the type and condition of your spare tire, you might want to keep your driving to low speed short trips and even then the absolute minimum.

Now if you don’t want to change the tire for a spare, and you feel you absolutely must drive do the following:
1) Put the damaged tire on the rear. (less likely to completely lose control)
2) Keep pressure in the tire … don’t try to drive it if it is low or completely flat.
3) Drive slowly — less than 30 mph if at all possible
4) Drive the shortest distances possible.
5) Expect that you might have your tire go flat at any moment (whether or not a blowout occurs) and it could be in the most inconvenient, and worst moment possible. Be prepared for any consequence.

Who knows, you just might be lucky and make it through until Sunday. Just don’t make any big bets on whether you’ll make it.

The tire has split internally. There is a high risk it will go bigger or blow out soon. Heat is a large factor in when it will let go. If your trying to save money, then maybe you should consider a used tire. Many tire shops will sell you a used tire for pretty cheap.

This is called separation and is usually caused by an impact. The outer tyre casing has separated from the main tyre structure and air is getting past the cords. The only thing stopping the tyre bursting is the outer wall of the tyre and if it goes it will be a blow out.Plus if you get a pull by plod its 3 points so change it today.

which tire is it? if it’s on the back go for it,unless you live where it has snow. that bulge is the tread separating from the bladder lining. there is no for sure way to know when it will go,but it will go. I have driven on one for three months before it lost it’s tread, then drove for twenty miles on the bladder lining. I don’t advise doing that though. you should be good for the next three days, but no guarantees on that.if its on the front tire, move it to the back, this way if it does go it won’t be as much of a loss of control issue.
