get a good engine for Ford

Anyone know where I can get a good engine for my Ford?—By Markus
It’s a 1990 Ford Ranger 2wd 5speed 2.9L v6. It only runs on 5 of the 6 cylinders. A mechanic recomended a new cam and lifters. Today I noticed some drops of oil in the drive way. Any suggestions on whats wrong with it or suggestions on fixing? I’ve been looking for a new engine but I don’t have $1600 laying around. (And no I won’t consider buying a new truck)

Would check interchange and go with a 3.0 liter vulcan motor if possible . They are cheap and abundant as Ford made them for a long time . Go with newer than 92 to get roller cam and better heads . The 2.9 had major head trouble and they do make an improved head in the aftermarket industry . Good Luck and hope it works out for you .

You may want to check out your local craigslist or ebay. I got mine at ebay, by contacting the guy the sell the engine and he have hundreds of them in his warehouse. Although, it is a little expensive going threw the ebay, but well worth it.

call around the auto salvage yards in your area. you might get lucky and find one with low miles for half the money
