Alot will depend on the specific model and what kind of driving you do. But to look at it in the most basic sense, assuming a car that is kept as a “garage queen” and used for but a handful of miles each year… you’d still be looking at one maintenance service per year, which will most likely run in excess of $1k.
Under such conditions, something like collector car insurance could be an option… however if you plan to ever operate the car more, or do something like leave it unattended in a parking lot for even 10 seconds (which would then invalidate that kind of coverage), regular insurance will be costly. Moreso for the newer cars, but still considerable for the older.
All in all, when you look at those costs and average out the more major services on a average annual basis, and $2-3k is probably a reasonable cost.
If you drive the car more often, or take it to the track (which they are very well suited for), you will have more maintenance costs, and have substantial annual cost in tires… this time of use could easily up the annual cost to $4-6k.
