How about the bmw car maintenance—By Redza
Why some many fans think the bmw car maintenance is very expensive?
Best Answer - By Hooligans
The reson BMW’s and their parts are so expensive is:
1.) BMW’s business model is based upon making few cars with excellent attention to detail as opposed to American car manufactures whose business model is based upon quantity over quality.
2) Because BMW’s business model is what it is the parts that go into these cars a made to very exacting tolerances.
3.) It takes time top be exact.
4.) quality materials are used.

Quality be name, qaulity by natutre. Quality = cost. You pay for what you get. I like it that way because it keeps BMW owners elite.

This will sum it up: Look at a brake rotor from a BMW. Then look at one from a Camry or a Honda. It’s bigger, thicker, heavier, more precise, better desiged, and just a more expensive part.

1. The spare parts are too costly. Also, if the car isn’t manufactured in your country, then it’s probably imported. Depending on how much import duty your country charges (it’s 100% in India for cars and the like), the price will shoot up.
2. High service costs: BMW, Merc, Audi, etc position themselves as “premium brands” – they aren’t the archetypal economic cars. This segment is more on the “5 star” side of things and not the “drive in motel” side.
3. Fuel cost: BMW isn’t meant to be an economy car. It won’t take you to the north pole for a gallon of fuel.
In other words, if you’re buying a BMW, have a look at the values the car represents. It’s not meant to be an economical thing. It’s high end and maintaining it’s performance and looks will cost you.
Hope this helps.

The standard answer of high purchase cost = high maintenance cost is a little misleading here. The reason why BMW maintenance is expensive is because the engineering of the car is complex. The driver’s door locking mechanism on a 2001 740i is 30 individual parts, for example. Compare that to a locking mechanism on a Honda Civic that may only be 4 parts. So why use 30 parts rather than 4? Because BMW (and German car manufacturers in general) wants to engineer for a multitude of situations. They allow you to lock just one door or all doors or prevent use of theft devices, etc. This style of engineering extends to all areas of the car (performance, interior comfort, etc.). When engineered in this way, reliability does suffer due to the multitude of individual pieces that can fail. Amazingly though, it makes me appreciate the build quality on a BMW even more because of the knowledge of the complexity that goes into it. The same way that a Rolex or other fine watch is appreciated due to the complexity within. It takes skilled technicians to deal with that complexity and there is cost associated with that. Finally, maintenance is also expensive due to the quality of parts. For example, the windshield on a 2002-current 7-series is coated with UV protection to protect occupants from harmful UV rays (in the same way that sunscreen works). Thus, if you have to replace the windshield, you cannot go to the local shop and get one for $250. You must use the BMW one which costs $2500. Part of that $2500 cost includes seals that must be replaced when the windshield is replaced (again due to the design of the seals to absolutely repel all rain, snow, wind, etc.). These are couple of concrete examples of why BMW maintenance is expensive but, they are countless others. Why does a BMW oil change run $100-150? Because the engines are designed to run with synthetic oil (which is 4x the price of regular oil). Bottom line, yes, BMW maintenance is expensive but, you also get what you pay for.
