How much does it cost to have a basic car stereo installed?—By Jim B
I have a ‘96 Chrysler with a stereo radio and CASETTE player. I want to switch to something that plays CDs and it doesn’t need to be fancy. There are a lot of good deals on Ebay but I am wondering what professional installation will cost if you don’t buy the player there. Any estimates?

About 40 bucks, A lot of times if you buy a stereo from the dealership they will install it for free. So maybe you will make out better than buying one on EBay. Try Best Buy or Circuit City or look through the phone book and call around.

at best buy you could get a good stereo for $100 to $200 and get free installion.
You should go for the professional installtion cause you can cross the wire and blow your speakers or make your songs play retarded

Well personally i would buy something from audio express because if your only buying a player there and no speakers it will only cost 1 dollar for them to install. Audio express is the home of the one dollar install which sounds like a great deal and is a great deal unless you buy speakers and amps because they they charge you the price of mounts and all that costs more money but like i said if you are only buying the radio with a cd player you can get it from there for cheap and then they’ll install it for just a dollar.

$50 for an install usually. Some people Walk in off the street with stereos they bought from ebay or some other place and want us to install them, I tell them that since they did not purchase the stereo from me, I can not be certain the actual stereo will work after 20 minutes of playing time. I usually test the cd player before the install and make sure it actually works prior to and installation.

I recently took my 94 ranger into Future Shop and had them take out the casette player and put in a CD player. With parts and tax and everything, it was about $65. Plus there is a warranty on their work. I went to a few places and priced the installation, and it was all pretty much the same everywhere.
