leave Car GPS mount on the window
Should I leave my GPS mount on the window?—By Ryan
I just bought a new GPS. I’m afraid to leave the suction cup GPS mount on the window, as it might encourage someone to break the window and look for the GPS.Of course, the GPS isn’t on the mount, its off and locked away in my glovebox. But the mount is still there. Should I take it off? It’s such a pain to take it off, but I don’t want a broken window.Am I being paranoid? Or is this a big enough concern to take it on and off every time I use it?Just FYI, the neighborhood I live in is mediocre, with (in my opinion) slightly above average crime rates. And I park next to my apartment building, exposed, off the street.

No, you should take it off. From my experience, leaving it on is asking for trouble. It might be a pain, but how much of a pain would it be to have to get your window fixed? Considerably more.
An extra tip. If the suction cup bit leaves a mark on the windscreen, make sure you rub that off too. It’s been known for people to go around looking for that mark on windscreens. Don’t give them an excuse.

Reality Check on 19 October 2009:
Your mount should allow your GPS to snap out.
I have had a GPS mount in my front window (RED BMW) for about 4 years. Been in detroit, chicago and other city areas with no problems.
I have no idea what your parking arrangement is, on the street, in your driveway. Your biggest danger is putting your car somewhere that people have private time and no one can see what they did. They will break your window for more than just a GPS, they will be looking to get anything they can. So I would imagine, With or without a GPS mount in the window it would make litte difference to why your window got busted. Most cases I have heard that peoples GPS got stolen out of their car while the door was unlocked.
Now a days Stealing GPS or cellphone is like stealing a calculator. And radios are worthless unless they were after market. It just isn’t anything I think about anymore because insurance covers everything.
