Your mount should allow your GPS to snap out.
I have had a GPS mount in my front window (RED BMW) for about 4 years. Been in detroit, chicago and other city areas with no problems.

I have no idea what your parking arrangement is, on the street, in your driveway. Your biggest danger is putting your car somewhere that people have private time and no one can see what they did. They will break your window for more than just a GPS, they will be looking to get anything they can. So I would imagine, With or without a GPS mount in the window it would make litte difference to why your window got busted. Most cases I have heard that peoples GPS got stolen out of their car while the door was unlocked.

Now a days Stealing GPS or cellphone is like stealing a calculator. And radios are worthless unless they were after market. It just isn't anything I think about anymore because insurance covers everything.
