The CX-9 displays sporty driving characteristics, but at the same time, we have to keep in mind that we’re talking about a 4,500-lb (2,000-kg), high-riding SUV. Body roll is well-controlled but still present, while the steering rack is one of the quickest within the 7-passenger SUV stratosphere.
Introduction of 2009 Mazda CX-9
The 2009 CX-9 is a 4-door, 7-passenger sport-utility, available in 6 trims, ranging from the Sport FWD to the Grand Touring AWD.
Upon introduction, the Sport FWD is equipped with a standard 3.7-liter, V6, 273-horsepower engine that achieves 16-mpg in the city and 22-mpg on the highway. The Grand Touring AWD is equipped with a standard 3.7-liter, V6, 273-horsepower engine that achieves 15-mpg in the city and 21-mpg on the highway. A 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on both trims.
The 2009 CX-9 is a carryover from 2008.

Buying Tips
The base front-drive versions are more than adequate for most types of driving; Grand Touring trims with AWD easily shoot past $40,000. It’s a buyer’s market with automakers eager to make deals, and there is no shortage of competitors to vie for your dollar.

This Touring FWD is comfortable, performs in a powerful and stable manner and gives you a safe feeling at all times. I had very few cars that deliver what is advertised, but this one does. I’ve been an auto enthusiast since before I could drive and this car is exciting to drive. It may be a crossover SUV, but it drives like a performer. The quality of the fit and finish is excellent on this vehicle. I’ve owned Ford, Honda and Nissan and this car meets and exceeds their quality of finish. For utility, this vehicle has more space than my previous truck based SUV and rides much more comfortably.

I get my Grand Touring AWD in september . I drive 200 to 300 km daily it is a perfect car with all the options .Smooth drive . for the long drive you will feel that you are in the saloon at home

We’ve owned our Sport AWD for about a year. We’ve driven it from Pennsylvania to New England twice and once to upper NY state, each time fully loaded with gear. I got it because I wanted a decent-handling SUV. It has fully met my expectations. I highly recommend the premium sound package. This car pulls out from any situation and gets up to speed with no hesitation. It never spins the tires on gravel or wet surfaces. I don’t know if this is due to the AWD or traction control. The steering is light and precise.

This Grand Touring AWD crossover is great to ride, has decent power, handles better than most cars I’ve owned and is very comfortable. The ride is quite inside and there is plenty of room for a vehicle in this category. There are some neat features as well. I love the intelligent key system. In addition to never having to pull the key out of my pocket, as soon as I unlock the door, the seat automatically sets itself to my memory position.
While I am happy with my purchase, there are some flaws to the crossover. Most disappointing is the navigation system. I still have to use an external GPS devise or a map. I can drive from a point on the interstate to another point on the same interstate and the navi system will take me 5 miles off of the freeway to some obscure road, then back to the freeway. If I drive past the exit, it will want me to make a u-turn back to the exit…even if I’m 5 miles from the exit and 1 mile from my destination. And no, I did not set my preference to avoid the freeway. You’re better off with a Mapsco than this waste of space. If the car you’re looking at has the navigation system, make sure they throw in a Garmin or TomTom for free.
Also, when getting in the car, the top of the door frame is fairly low. My wife, one of my children and I have all bumped our heads getting into the vehicle. The auxiliary input for connecting your MP3 player is ill placed in the center console. And good luck finding an MP3 player that works. I have three different MP3 players and none of them work in the auxiliary jack. At least the 6 CD disc player plays MP3’s.
Aside from the flaws mentioned above, the crossover definitely has zoom zoom. It handles curves like a sports car. The larger center console give the car a nice feel and surprisingly does not take much from the seat width. The steering wheel controls are nicely placed and easy to handle. I like that the tri-climate control is a standard feature.
If you’re looking for a sporty crossover and don’t mind the lower gas mileage (average is 18 MPG), I recommend that you drive this one before making your final decision
