MPG to get on for dodge grand caravan
How many MPG should i get on my 03 dodge grand caravan?—By Steve D
i have 2003 dodge grand caravan. it has the 3.3 v6. 74,000 miles. i get only like 15mpg. what could be wrong with it or is that normal. changed the air filter. would i have to change spark plugs and fuel filter.

I have a 04 Grand Caravan and the best I can get out of it is 18 mpg. Now if i would actually do the speed limit I’m sure I would get more. Now I do nothing but highway driving. If you live in the city and do short runs then 15 mpg would be about right.

Actual MPG varies a great deal. If you do a lot of city driving (stop & go) you are probably going to average somewhere between 16 and 23 MPG. On the road at 60+ you could average between 19 & 30 MPG, depending on road conditions, up and down hills, excessive speed, etc.
There is no way to give even a good “ball park” estimate of your MPG there are so many variables.
I had a 2003 Chev venture and maintained an average of 18 in town and 27 on the road. I used a fuel injector cleaner (through the gas tank) on a monthly basis, changed my oil and filter at least every 3,000 miles and used a full synthetic oil. And my air filter was cleaned or replaced at every oil change. I traded the van for a new car a couple of weeks ago. It had 107,000 miles on it and was running as good as the day I drove it off the lot. Changing plugs is not usually needed. I would “pull” one of the plugs and have it checked by a TRUSTED mechanic.

With my ‘04 GC with the 3.8, I’m getting high 17’s in town due to the cold weather. In the summer around town, without AC, I can pull mid-19-s to low 21’s.
Out on the highway in summer, I can get nearly 30 without AC and running posted limits.
I run Mobil1 5W30 year round, with the addition of 8 oz of Marvel Mystery Oil 500 miles before the 5K oil and filter change. No other additives used.
With 78K, I would replace the plugs and wires first, especially if they are original.
Fuel filter would involve dropping the fuel tank, as its part of the fuel pump assembly.
