Which S55 are you comparing? Up to the ‘02 model year, the S55 was naturally aspirated. From ‘03, it was supercharged.
The S55 Kompressor (German word for supercharger) is hands-down the fastest.
The S55 n/a put out 349 hp, 391 lb-ft torque
The S550 puts out 382 hp, 391 lb-ft torque
The S550 has the benefit of an additional 2 gears in the transmission (7 speed vs. 5 speed) so with the extra gears and extra 33 hp, I’d assume the newer S550 is faster compared to the ‘01 and ‘02 S55

Remarkably, the 0-60 mph performance of a 2001 S55 AMG (naturally aspirated) vs. a 2009 S550 is exactly the same…5.7 seconds. I own a stock, ex. the OEM wheels are chromed, designo Silver Edition S55 AMG (yes, it’s the only one I’ve ever seen, too) and at least once a week, some enthusiast stops me to comment on this car. But, this car’s performance is truly remarkable from 80 to 110 when you MUST do a right lane pass of a cluster of SUV’s blocking the left & center lane on the interstate.
