How often do you need to change your cars oil?—By Frank Z
The standard was to change your oil every 3,000 miles. Now I hear every 5,000 miles. I just had my oil changed–after 5,000 miles and
am not sure if I wasted my money as checking the dipstick the oil
was as clear as cooking oil after 5,000 miles?
Is changing your cars oil every 5,000 miles a waste of money?

It depends what kind of car you have, look in your owners manual it will give you a list of all the maintaince for your car and the mileage to preform this. If you don’t have a owners manual go to the dealer and ask for this information. You can never go wrong by changing your oil , better to often than not. One more thing find out the recommended grade of oil for your car, using the wrong oil can do engine damage in some engines. Something else if you have a timing belt always replace it before the recommended miles

Use multi grade oils such as 5w-20, 5w-30, 10w-40. etc. whatever your vehicle recommends
Regular oil = abt 5 to 6 thousand miles
Full or partial synthetic oil = 8 to 10 thousand miles
depending on the type of driving you do. The more start & stop traffic you drive in, change more frequently. If you do mostly highway driving, you can go longer w/o oil change. Check your oil whenever you fill up gas & make sure it’s full, also check the color. If it’s black or dark brown – time for an oil and filter change

i use synthetic oil so i only change it about every 8500 miles, when i used regular oil though i changed it between 3-and 5 thousand,if it wasn’t synthetic oil you had in it 5 thousand is plenty enough miles to put on it ,with synthetic you can go up to ten thousand and be safe ,good luck.

you should do it every 4,000 miles it’s better for your car unless you have the money to get a new car then don’t change it at all. i like my truck so i change it every 4,000 my tahoo has over 200,000 miles on it n still run strong

Its good to change it every 3,000 to 5,000 miles of use. It also really depends on how old your car is, because the newer cars can actually go longer without oil changes. So to answer your question both yes and no on wasting your money.
