When have bright lights on

When should we have bright lights on?—By ~Nûßź~
I thought we were suppose to have brights on whenever it’s dark, but apparently not. Cops pulled me over and I got a “warning”. Anyway, are we always suppose to drive with dim lights? How the heck are we suppose to see anything?!!

Well the proper description of a two stage headlight system is high beams and low beams. Most of your driving is done with LOW beams on. These are adjusted so that you do not blind other drivers, yet still have a good view of the road ahead. High beams are meant for driving on the highway at night where a longer, straighter beam allows for greater distance of sight. There are guidelines for minimum distance between you and other moving vehicles with your high beams on. (these are specific to area, but are usually a few hundred feet) There are different distances for oncoming and vehicles sharing your direction of travel. The fact that you do not know this is seriously scary! What else are you clueless on? And finally I can only hope you are in either another area of the US, or preferably in another country.

Bright lights are only supposed to be used when they can not blind on coming drivers.

The bright lights are pointed higher than the low beams, and can blind drivers coming in the opposite direction.

Fog lights/driving lights are supposed to be pointed low at the road, as to not blind on coming drivers. They are legal to use.

If it was your full beam then a blue light should appear on your dash board. This should only be on if there’s nothing coming the other way and there are no street lights.

If this was not the case then your bulb may not be in correctly and dazzling other drivers.

Either that or the copper was just being gay.
